ABOUT
How’d the network get its start?
The network began with a few online friends who wanted a space for weekly design challenges. Our first humble home was on gojabber. (the gojabber domain has been sold and no longer offers forums)
When we outgrew that we moved the forum to webspace donated by one of our members – www.doxallo.com/forum.
That is when the network began growing by leaps and bounds.
It seemed to fill a need and became a really busy place! Somewhere along the way dedicated webspace was purchased but it was never developed. The forum remained on artist webspace and the network website continued to sit as a placeholder.
Finally, after a good number of of years, the network website has begun development and the forum has moved to its third (and final??) home.
What’s the purpose?
Roughly the network exists to bring together artists in order to share, learn, grow. Many artists work in relative isolation and networking via the web offers much needed fellowship, support, inspiration, and knowledge.
Who’s behind it?
All of us really! It is the collective input that drives the network. What topics are discussed, the needs, the information presented — the passion – it comes for everyone involved. Behind the scenes, there are a handful of talented and generous members who ensure the network functions.
What’s in it for me? (come on, you know that’s an honest question!)
Partly you will get out of it what you put into it.
Partly you will get what you want -
- if you just want information, you can get that
- if you want a social outlet, you can get that.
- Want growth, advice, inspiration?
All of that is here as well.
We will offer challenges, contests, giveaways. You do not need to be a ‘member’ to participate – simply stay tuned to the announcements and then in most cases you can take part through the comments or by using the contact forms.
The forum is a great resource, but you don’t have to take part. If you do, you will find folders designated for various mediums (wire, metal, glass, etc) , there are folders for ‘show and tell’ and links to ‘eye candy’ for inspiration, and there are folders for resources such as suppliers, sales, schools, etc. The forum is probably the ‘key’ to making the network ‘work’ – it connects people. While we will update the resource page here on the website, it will always be seen first, and most current, on the forum.
How do I get involved?
There are many ways to do this:
- Read and respond right here on the website through comments on blogposts, articles, etc
- Read and respond in the forum
- Join us for a retreat or playday!
- Submit a question (we’ll publish the Q&A and include your name or not – you decided!)
- Submit a challenge or contest idea
- Become a partner, supporter, advertiser
- Write an article
- Become a Regular Blogger with us
- Guest Blog for us
- And that is just for starters!
The network strives to be a place of ‘free speech’, equality, and respect. Overall the network strives to be open and educational while maintaining a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Almost no topic is taboo, there is a fair amount of latitude in choice of language, we go offtopic, joke, and have fun. However, this also means that at times, to maintain the overall health of the network, comment forms or discussions may be closed or edited and users may be moderated or even banned (in rare cases).
SPAM is not tolerated AT ALL.
Copyright and bandwidth theft are taken seriously. Any complaints or concerns are handled promptly erring on the side of caution at all times.
The forum and website have run purely on donations until just recently. In order to help defray costs, basic acess to the forum is now $5.00 annually. Its a small (very small!) price to pay to help defray the costs of the server and administration. This fee is subject to change (or even disappear) at any time.
